Daemons Luminati by Kalima
This is the story I want to be stranded on a desert island with, to be in solitary
confinement with, to have buried with me. ;) Seriously, I can't say enough of
how extraordinary this ff is. B/S, for those who care, with a wonderful portrayal
of Tara, ('Voluptuous peach.'), and the ever dense, yet still ever Chosen One,
Buffy. Oz's pink bic in 'Master Wil' is an indirect homage ref. to the Spike.Tara
scene in 'Daemons'. I want my VW to be this Spike.
Odalisque
by Elen
Rich, sensual, frightening, funny, historical tale, in progress. Willow is flung
back in time and becomes the human member in the Fanged Four's family, preparing
a home for them in Prague. Where I write 'Master Wil' rather soft, in my personal
exploration of the theme of the kept woman, Elen is more frank, unforgiving,
chancey, and thus, remarkably bittersweet, ironic, and revealing. If the horror
bits don't horrify you too much, you will find the portrayals of William, Dru,
Darla, Angelus, and of course, of this Willow wonderfully dimensional, and,
dare I say it, endearing (altho' with the vampires, more endearing in a 'I'll
be hiding safely over here' kind of way ;D). The 'romantic' pairing is Willow/William.
In progress.
Elysium by Dana Woods
This is one of a series. I'll read anything with Tara in it, and when I followed
this one, I was enrapted with Dana's portrayal of her Tara, one who'd remained
in madness because Willow (and many of the Scoobies), did not survive the attack
on Glory. This story is a true mythic journey that slowly takes Tara from insanity
to some form of clarity in order to deal with the latest threat to her dead
Willow. We watch her through Spike's eyes, which is entirely apt, since he had
dealt with Drusilla's own state of being a woman Inside Out for over a century.
As the reader, I cheer on this damaged, fragile, yet resolved heroine and the
equally damaged vampire who watches her back. It is a very hard journey, but
like many hard tales, is very much worth it. Brava!
We Don't Need Another
Hero by Mediancat
A Comedy, yay!! Seriously, I am not an angst mistress.
;) This hilarious and absolutely well written spoof of old skool Marvel/Stan
Lee writing mixed with a little classic DC/JLA (ye olde fanboys will easily
recognize what I mean), combines the Scooby Gang with the Fang Gang in L.A.--Tara,
bless her soft heart, manages to protect herself, Fred, and Xander from the
latest threat, which plunges everyone else, unawares, into this 'comic book'
universe. Unfortunately, that means only she, Fred, and Xander know what's really
going on. Everytime I see Tara's superhero name, I laugh!! The 'Super Villian'
file on Drusilla is especially funny. The *whole* thing is fun, and unfortunately,
in progress, so go leave feedback (because I didn't), so that Mediancat may
be inspired to continue, and enjoy!

There are several very strong and simple aspects that I appreciate in certain
Tara stories which happen to have Spike as her relationship interest. One,
is the portrayal of a deceptively strong Tara coming into her womanhood--a
girl become woman who is willing to be as much her soft self as she is willing
to be brave. Two, is the gradual building of a complex, realistic relationship
between two such unlikely creatures--an earthy, yet angelic lesbian woman
and a male, soulless, reformed devil--and making it work, in all its funny,
painful, hurtful, endearing ways. Three, is the presence in the story of an
overall frank understanding and openness of love and the faults of peoplekind.
These three aspects make a formula for a kind of story that makes me a Spike/Tara
lover. :)
And if you want to take that same formula and apply it to Willow/Tara, sure
you can. Make Willow 'Dark', or a Vampire, and it works just fine. :)
