Happy New Year 2008

Happy New Year to everyone!!

pic_cuteoverload.gif

I've just finished laffing, smiling, and saying 'awwww!!' over at Cute Overload, one of my favorite sites. You know I love the 'Cats & Racks' section. ;) I'm still sans kitties myself, but have rediscovered the cute and funny of our aminal friends. For more misspelling fun (ala Pogo, or Ignatz, but more like pidgen Engrish), I enjoy icanhascheezburger.com. Actually, I enjoy the cheezfrends threads and lolspeak a lot. Maybe too much!

pic_Icanhascheezburger.gif

Hope everyone is well and apologies for not coming back here and maintaining my blog. good god, i need to answer some entries. and, I am *very* backlogged on my emails. I apologize to everyone for not getting to them, especially the ones that ask important questions about a certain comic book. Obviously I'm reluctant to answer those, like the wuss i am. I'm woman enough to admit that!!!

You'll probably notice the uneven typing as well--continue in my e.e. cummings fashion for the past 12 years or type with Uppercase 'I's like normal folks? This, my friends, is the result of hands that are finding pain a distant memory. Healing is at hand (HA HA: punney). Of course, the moment I say that, a piano will fall on me. Right on my hands. Then I have to resort to plan D of Despair and find a pianist and murder that person for his talented hands but you know what, i joke, ha ha!!! I'm ok!

I hate promising or sharing the latest that's happening with me because something *always* seems to come up that dashes my promises or plans. Or if not 'dashes', causes a kind of swerving where I miss my intended 'route CS#10' and end up wandering in the Mojave somewhere. Or finding a nice, cozy cave and staying there, but let's not talk about that (that's private! :D). What I will say is that I've been working this past autumn for a really great and talented animation goddess, Miz Tp, and though there's no money in it, I'm learning a lot. Among the many, many things she does--Creative Talent Network, Animation Alumni, and Digital Or Not --she's also developing a 3D animated film being done in *Unnamed Country Here*.

Development is rolling on that slowly and surely, and since I've never worked in development myself before--this is also my first 3D film--I'm learning a lot about the process. Like anything about film....it's cool!!! And THANK the gogs (not a misspelling) I have a boss like Miz Tp!!! She's the greatest! :DDD

I think I'll end right there. There's a bunch of other stuff I'm doing, or should be doing, or just want out of the way so I can do what needs doing that I LIKE doing. I would rather do 'I LIKE doing' *first*, as it should be, but stuff like the mortgage keeps getting in the way. So I wish all of you the best of Health, Prosperity, and Good Fortune for our new year. :) And, of course, lots of Laughs. Good laughs, bad laughs, or even those scary, cynical ones, hey, as long as we can laugh evil doesn't win. Seriously. ;D

Hm, I want to go out on a note of Cosmic Imagery (or something), since I loves me the Outer Space. Not the whole 'I will freeze to death or implode' kind of space, I mean the pritty kind. I'll show you a pic of my iGoogle page, I love the space theme.

SPX!

SPX

no, I won't be there, but a girl named Carolyn will be--is, actually, considering that I post this on the Friday nite, and SPX is running this Friday the 12 to the 13th. If you are in Bethesda, Maryland, go say hi to her on Saturday and check out her stuff!!
curls-studio.com

That's Curls Studio, with Carolyn.

C. wrote me a few years ago and bought a Charm School page; she also asked me how someone can manage to have a demanding career (in her case, graphic design with a 3 hr commute to and from) and still make comics. I had to give it a lot of thought because tho' i worked overtime at the Diz studio i only lived 5-10 minutes away; the moment i came home i considered it 'My Time' and left all Diz concerns behind. You really have to be selfish; You have to have Your Space, Your Time, and just make Your Stuff. I know that's hard with kids and Signif. Others and especially financial concerns, but if you want your comics to come into being that Badly, you can make it happen.

So I finally replied to C. with words to that effect and then some, wishing her the best of luck because i certainly didn't want to influence a decision where she would quit a desirable graphic design position despite the 3 hr commute. You know what we decide is like the spin of a dime that can take us into infinite directions--which one is fulfillment, which one is what you Really Want To Do (because that can be 10 bazillion kinds of results). It's all faith, tears, and luck. C. wrote me again just recently to say I had inspired her and really helped her out back then because *now* she's making her comics and doing her tour!!

Thankfully she wrote back with my original email reply attached. I read it now and think: who was this person who wrote this, who Knew Her Stuff, who inspired C. and really Believed? That's amazing. Thank goodness for full circles, because now I'm Inspired in return. C. may have acted somehow on my example (or a various combination of influences) way back when, but now I've made a personal decision thanks to inspiration by her example.

So go check her out at SPX, or where ever she may be appearing in the next few months! Tell her I said hi! ;)

How are you kids? Oh, guess what, You Must Go Buy the very Last Issue of DISNEY ADVENTURES on the NEWSSTANDS NOW!!! (That's the November issue).

Because I am in it with the comic I wrote and drew and really loved based on the Great Mouse Detective. Because Disney Adventures' cancellation was quite abrupt, I had to hurry and put a story in the last issue or my spunky little mouse detective, Olivia Flaversham, would never see print. I had a good handful of her stories--solving mysteries with monsters and strangeness--lined up for the upcoming year, but Fate would have it that it wasn't meant to be. A lot of fun that would have been and it's left a vacuum in my creative heart that i must fill up with something else other than chocolate. ;)

So get that issue, it has Ratatouille on the cover! It's the November issue and my story's in the back called, "Side Show Sea Beast!!"

And that's all folks. :) I hope everyone's well as we go deeper into a deepening October. ;D I am very behind on emails and of course in even replying to posts here. Thanks to everyone for keeping in touch and seeing how i'm doing. Big Thanks to Mr. ZZZZ for sending me to Nextfest 2007--guess what Mr. ZZzzz? I finally made that decision, I invested in my future. ;) And I pay myself back with interest and Then Some.

Take care everyone, I'll catch up with you as soon as I can!!!

weeeee! Broomstick!!!

we're back!

pic_storyboard_blank3.jpg

geez, who knew I would be gone so long?

i hope everyone is doing well and having a happy beginning to summer! mostly i was gone from the blog jan-march due to rabid job hunting (the mundane kind). then of course when i finally decide to take a mundane office gig i ended up having the Wonderful opportunity to help on the film Enchanted (the animated portion--looks great! and was a great experience :D). It will come out during Thanksgiving, i believe. check it out here:
http://jamesbaxteranimation.com/

so march/april was my being office drone by day and animation person at night. loved it, i now want back in again.

so once that ended i decided to work on a storyboard test. that also took up a lot of April. see the blank panel above? it's for prime time tv. ug, i think i'm not going to land this one! competition is tuff in this town. ;)

but now that i'm drawing again--with *no* pain, nok on wood--i really feel like coming out of retirement.

I apologize for not noticing the problems with the site. everytime i took care of it, my host provider took it down again. why? they gave no good (or clear) reasons for the pass few weeks except that i got the big hint that they wanted more money. since i paid a yearly plan, i would be losing 8 months of paid service, but screw 'em, i've moved lock, stock and barrel to Hostgator.com. This move also meant that my web person, tinna k. (thank you!!!) could *Finally* get me access to Movable Type (my previous provider kept it locked despite repeated requests to give access back). so here i am!

I'm going to work on my animation clean-up portfolio. i didn't have one ready *at all* when the opportunity to work on the Simpsons movie came up, but that's ok, they didn't call back. :P it's good to have tho', so there's that and the drawn pages i'd promised Disney Adventures for my Great Mouse pitch.

and Charm School #10 is somewhere in that line-up of to-do's, because i really need to get that done and the second story arc bound in a novel. with many of the single issues now out of print, i know many of you can't get the complete story...

what time is it? if a friend is finally awake i want to bug her about going to an Art Walk! ;DDDD take care kids and thanks for sticking around. like the Governator says: I'll be Back!

much Love all around,
~e

Sky Has Answers

pic_f_sky.jpg

Happy New Year to everyone!!! :)

i think i'm still up thanks to the hot choco recipe i got out of Body + Soul magazine--dark chocolate bar (in this case, Ghirardelli), melted into soy milk w/ cinnamon, cardamom, cayenne pepper, and a bit o' salt. cardamom i could not afford, so i found a masala mix in the cupboard that had cardamom. ;DD yum!

isn't that toasty? tho' making stuff from scratch takes some time, it somehow tastes more satisfying than pre-mix. and speaking of toasty, i've warm socks and a cute fleece cap for my head. perhaps to boost my immunity i should do the ice shower thang like the norwegians. ha ha, i'm kidding. no one's getting me out of these warm socks and cute hat. *pops hot popcorn sprinkled w/ cayenne pepper and garlic salt instead*

this morning i was enjoying the sunlight and the sky. it already had a couple of flight streaks, as you can see, and it was an inspiring enough of a view to bring to mind a conversation scene i was working out with flyinggirl and--gasp, dare i say it--a 'kissing buddy' of hers. those of you who are familiar with the flyinggirl of the Action Girl 'verse will probably not follow what i am saying. that's because for the past few years i've been hashing out a long storyline where i find Ginnie growing and growing in complexity to me as an entity--THANK GODDESS, because when the character moves beyond being merely a character and becomes more of a presence in my awareness--one who can dictate to me rather than my being the director/manipulator--it's about time. tho' i wish such revelations can happen sooner, things do fall into place. for one thing, miss paige sent me an Incredible personal cd compilation she'd put together, merely titled 'Beloved' (and gorgeously so), which, when i listen to it, brought up Answers to several WiseGirls plot 'hangings' that i had. the dominoes are now aligned.

if i like the story, you will like it too. :) i guess i shouldn't be surprised that this all fell into place much the same way that Charm School #10--still in thumbnail format--managed to fall into conclusion in a manner that finally satisfied me. so as soon as i can find something that's 40hrs and *sane* to replace this now annoying blue collar gig, i can put everything together.

and get it into print and to you guys, fancy that. :) since i'm returning to drawing (now that i have muscles--thank you hard labor), i also hope to draw some stories for D. Adventures--i really look forward to that, because hey, talking mice, always a classic!! god, i love cartoons.

i've seen and read many blessing for this New Year--people's heartfelt eloquence really impress and touch me. frankly, i just want to steal miz Lezli's blessing and print it here, but i haven't time to email her and get permission in time for 1/1/07! *note to self: EMAIL EVERYONE* so i will simply say this:

I wish you all Joy, all Strength, and all Love. Shanti Shanti. Thank You for keeping me in your thoughts, for you are all only a thought away in mine. :) I wish you all the Best, and I give a welcoming Hello to All the Best, hidden in You. May you Make Things Happen. Ok, let's go kick out this New Year!!!!

with Love,
~e
i've got a cute cap, and i'm gonna use it

PS: folks who like comic book fonts, you must know about the Comiccraft *one day* a year only and never again ;D SALE:
COMICCRAFT FONT SALE

i picked up HELLSHOCK and MEANWHILE, i couldn't help myself. treat thyself to a Very Good Lettering Font at a yummy 20 buckaroos each, and your comics work will be happy you did! plus the editors you may letter for will be happy too. 'Wildwords' seems to please just about everyone (a statement to which 50% out there will probably disagree--such is the graphics bizness ;D).

You Can

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone!!! :D

pic_holidays.jpg

i already opened some precious goodies from friends, thank you :) (including a certain boxed custom Willow--i owe many emails to certain people!!).

pic_holidays2.jpg

body and soul, indeed. simple delights are: yummy eats, something nice to smell, something nice to light, a pampering product to apply :D, a warm blankie, something comfy to wear, something hot to drink, something Wonderful to listen to, something Funny to watch, and somebody to share it all with, but maybe next year. Thank you miz lezli, miss paige oxoxox, miz binky, miz mudflaps, and before i have to recite a long list of the Nicest people/readers/fans in the Whole World, THANKS to everyone who has been so supportive (and patient ;D), this year! i am *very* lucky to know all of you. let's spread it all around! hugs for everyone! :DDD

i apologize for being away from the site--def. not my intention, but plans always seem to go awry. my current, blue collar gig is physically taxing--i've lost 13 lbs :O and gained some strength but 3 mo. of this kind of work is enough for me. i have not been able to write or draw for myself, at all, and that is a great imbalance that needs fixing NOW. thank the gods for mr. J and mr. B at d. adventures for giving me writing gigs. happily, i've written a few wee comic scripts, all fun projects (yes, even 'Cinderella III' was fun to do) which have kept me sane. i now know what can be horrifying about the no-skills '9-5': you go to sleep. you don't dream. you don't aspire. you don't see potential. you don't create.

while trying to convince a person at this blue collar gig that yes, i had worked in movies, i write, i draw, i'm published, you can buy the book on amazon--she looked at me like i was a fantasy. her life was spent in that place where things like these are never realized. isn't that weird? i then said something to her like: i realize now that i seem to be only of the 10 percent of the population that is like this, but you must know, i am *100%* ME.

Jo is a wonderful, old bird. she then quoted to me some words another artistic person had said to her (being reminded by my talk of percents): (it went something like this:) 20 percent of the population is Aware; they dream, they aspire, they make things, they see the potential, they create. the rest of the population happens to be *asleep*.

Jo and I laughed. :DDD

so i have to say to everyone who is right now drawing or writing or Making Something that there is no difference between me and You. you *can* make things happen, you can join a movie crew, you can write stories, you can get printed, you *can* make a book, even if it is something just xeroxed and stapled and handed to friends, you are Printed. and every time 'You Can', *You ARE*. being Awake is not hard, it's not a fantasy, it's not just for the 'special' 10 percent of the population. if you are reading this, you already are Special. ;) let no one tell you otherwise: you have the right to be 100% YOU.

so tread those floorboards, sing, dance, bake that cake, make that thing you've always wanted to make, join that thing you've always wanted to join, give birth to whatever it is that needs birthing. and if you are not the 'birthing' type, certainly be supportive to those around you who are. let's Dream together. :)

the sky is full of stars! i'll see you all later. have a Wonderful Holiday, ho ho ho and all that. :D i'll be visiting my baby nephew and playing with his new toys, *and* telling him about the rocket i didn't buy for him. i doubt my sister wants her boy sent up into space, just yet. ;) Best Wishes to everyone!

love,
~super e

she dreams in black

pic_misc_pumpkins.jpg

hi spooks! boooooooooooo.

i am so tired, i can only take hazy shots of my pumpkins. and reflect on Linus and his lonely faith in the Great Pumpkin. how are you spooks? wear a costume for me and go dance. i'm afraid that i am, as always, *really* behind on emails and stuff. thanks for your patience. just a shout out to bink!! bink!! bink!! dear binky: i haven't deboxed her yet because i want to savor the moment, but Thank You very much. :DDD she gave me a customized vampire Willow, tee hee. i love dolls.

speaking of dolls, this is the real size of me pumpkins:

pic_misc_pumpkins2.jpg

they're so cute!! that photo was unintentionally kind of creepy. that's because i haven't lit this set up at all. i wonder if anyone's tried to carve miniature pumpkins? i'm sure it can be done.

pic_misc_pumpkins3.jpg

i need to continue the conversation about Susanoo at the Charm School yahoo club (i haven't forgotten miz tita! ;D), and i have to err...resume the promised 'how i ink with brushes' talk. and i def. have to mention the Wirefly X-Prize--did anyone watch? i caught some of the internet broadcast, it was fun! :)

pic_misc_pumpkins4.jpg

you know how parents take these bright photos of their costumed kids before they go off tricking and treating? that's what this reminds me of. she needs a little pointy hat. ;)

g'nite spooks! Happy Halloween!!!

yours in Vampire dreams,

LAS CRUSES, New Mexico, Happening Now!

....ok, very quickly, because i have to speed down the highway (with my radar detector) for my blue collar gig in about ten minutes:

Wirefly X-Prize Cup

happening NOW, kids! this weekend, first X-Racer to debut is Thunderhawk, admission price is only 15 a day, i think, and there will also be Space Elevator Games. :D is this a geek fest? yes it is, i must go next year!!

yippppeeeeeeeee~~~~~

everyone go zooom,

next: brushes (??)

boo! we all Fall down

Harvest moon!

tonight is the Harvest Moon, it will be 12 percent bigger than the usual full moon and will pass before the Pleiades, so if you know how to operate your telescope (i don't), there you go!

and for those of you who will be frolicking au natural in secret rituals during the equinox--watch out for cops! ;)

pic_space_redmoon.jpg

the picture! the picture above is my lame attempt to capture an orange moon a few weeks ago--it was reddish orange probably because of the pollution in the air above los angeles--heat and smog combine to cause that hazy look with the sun as well. there are orange sunsets here, and not of the pretty, 'oo tropical' kind, but more of the ominous, alien landscape kind. i like my alien landscapes on alien planets! i just feel inspired to wear a gas mask when i see these things.

in other news, Ansari fell from the sky, safe and sound, you've probably seen the pics of her relieved face upon landing on mother earth. that is just so cool. i say hurray for islamic women who can take (secret) heart in her achievement!

ok, i'm going to light out of here but i promise: brushes, inking, whatever, i'll cover it next. ;) one hopes. thanks to everyone who has been so supportive--thanks for buying books and art (you know who you are!), and thanks for commissions and donations. the site is waiting for its new duds--waiting for me, actually, to re-format everything to the new look tinna designed, so geez, that needs looking at as well. until then, lets all do what we usually do to pay the bills and--

look up into the sky!! clouds!!

much Love under the stratoshere,

Go Space Racer

hi kids, how the heck are you! Happy Fall-like weather to everyone. i am behind in all things (especially emails, bear with me!). i scored a seasonal temp job that is swing, w/ overtime. that's a bit of a lousy shift; it doesn't leave much time to do things more easily taken care of when one is unemployed. :P and i have to spend the more creative night hours sleeping--what a concept!

before i do the explanation about how i ink stuff, i realized i needed to do a post about brushes first. so i've yet to take pictures of that. i'll get to that eventually. i know there are plenty of people who know how to work with brushes (thanks to art school/classes), but i do take into consideration that many folks have yet to be introduced to them.

so instead of the inking post, space news!! i'm always ready to talk about that. ;)

everyone should know by now that Ansari has arrived safe and sound at the international space station. she had some space sickness apparently, yet is fine. ah, barfing! i know that's something i would do, and quite often, if i were to go up. here is her Blog: Ansari's Space Blog. i'm excited for her because she gets to see this:

pic_space_blueplanet.jpg

and this:

pic_space_blueplanet2.jpg

and if this were a couple of years ago, she'd see Mir Space Station:

pic_space_blueplanet3.jpg

hey, where is it? crap, i uploaded the wrong picture. anyway, that's a ghost image of my patio doors in that pic. no, it is not an angel sighting. ;) these natty pics were taken of my telly as i played the dvd, 'EARTHLIGHT', one of my favorite ambience dvds.

while Ansari is *being* an astronaut, X-PRIZE CUP, oct 9th, in Las Cruses, New Mexico will have the very first Rocket Race. yes, you heard correctly, rockets!! the Rocket Racing League intends to race about 4 planes--next year will be the full load of ten. i intend to be there in 2007. i don't want to pick a winna, but i do want to pick a fave of the X-Racers. :D the Trixie in me says, 'Go Speeeed!!'

pic_space_XRacers.jpg

or, 'Stop that, Chim Chim!!', depending on the circumstance.

the benefits of being able to race is not only for the simple, thrilling fun of it (because think: what *is* the purpose of NASCAR and Rally Racing??), but for testing and improving the aircrafts. ROCKETS FOR EVERYONE (who can afford it), not just for people signed up to be hotshots in the military. :D that's what i like. as far as i know right now, none of the rocketeers or suborbital developers have military contracts. which is why you don't see me mentioning NASA's new Moon Rocket plans. who did NASA give that contract to? Lockheed Martin. am i dissing the people who work there? sorry, but besides the other stuff you make that benefits people, you're defense contractors. and you buried chemical waste where it's possible for me to get cancer. thanks.

Rockets: you don't have to be a trained bomb dropper to fly one :D.

so i'll see you in Las Cruses, New Mexico, 2007!!

(New Mexico also hosts the big annual Balloon Race. I need to get me some tourist info. )

and on the flip side of speed, here is one of the most elegant solutions to chemical or flammable fuel sources, which i greatly admire:

pic_space_SMART1.jpg

this is SMART-1, which impacted the Moon a week or so ago, as launched by ESA--the European Space Agency. SMART-1 ran on an Ion Engine. read about it here, because my ability to relate simple science is on a par with Chim Chim's:
ESA's explanation of the Wonder of Ion Engines

i LOVE the ion engine because its solar power resource is infinite, and its acceleration is accumulative. it's not the testosterone rush (and thrust :P) of rocket power; objects with Ion engines fly leisurely through the universe, riding the flow of the universe, if you will, and will get 'there' when it gets 'there'. we may all be dead by then, but it will keep moving just as everything else keeps moving when we blink out anyway. ;)

see you in the skies!!

best of All Worlds,
~e
